sara + jeff :: wyoming wedding

Somewhere between moving from Mississippi to Minnesota, Sara & Jeff managed to squeeze in a wedding/family reunion along the old family land near Esterbrook, Wyoming (take a left at Glendo). Sara had by far the prettiest wedding dress to ever grace the Esterbrook Community Church.

With absolutely no fanfare, the ceremony began. Luckily on my left shoulder was a camera fitted with a ultra-wide zoom to capture the whole scene in the super-tiny historical church.© 2008 Tom Koetting / tomKphoto.com

And on my right shoulder was a second camera with a long telephoto lens to get the ceremony ring exchange. My sitting position did not change from the previous photo.

On a clear Wyoming day, you can see your bright future forever!

kayla + austin :: loveland wedding

Imagine meeting your life partner, in third grade. Childhood sweethearts Kayla & Austin tied the knot at First Lutheran Church in Longmont, with a fabulous backyard reception.  It was a beautiful day, planned and anticipated by both families for some time. © 2008 Tom Koetting / tomKphoto.com

Yup, two cakes – Southern style. The groom’s cake had the number 24 on top – a number both Kayla & Austin wore on their basketball jersey.

Another sparkler exit … this one was very long. Luckily, no burn marks on me this time.

christine + tim :: colorado springs wedding

The wind died down at Hillside Gardens in Colorado Springs on Friday just a bit for Christine & Tim’s East meets West extravaganza. Christine’s relatives came from New York to Alaska to celebrate life’s next chapter.

An odd sandy light cloaked the purple mountains half way through the ceremony, which gave way to a stunning sunset an hour later

The great escape – this image will stick with me for the rest of my life as just moments before I got a permanent scar from the most wicked sparklers this side of Chengdu.

The very next day, at Cheyne & Chad’s wedding, the mention of a sparkler exit came up. At that point I felt like Indiana Jones when somebody says, snakes.

cheyne + chad :: fort collins wedding

While New Belgium Brewery may be a crown jewel for Fort Collins, the wedding of Cheyne & Chad was a gem of a party in the exclusive upstairs lounge. Anyone who peered in the huge stainless vats in the center of the room saw organic beer ingredients churning, while awesome Americana sounds of a Denver band, The Reals, heated up the dance floor. Everything about the wedding was unique… Including my first attempt at creating a slide show of the mountain ceremony in time to play at the reception. I did this on my laptop while riding down the Big Thompson Canyon in the back of grandma’s car, brakes jabbing all the while. (I may not be so cavalier about offering that service next time!) And for a unique exit, the couple rode off into the night on two of Chad’s own cruiser bikes. Cheers to Chad, Cheyne and little Cormik! And thanks for turning me onto a band I didn’t know — as I say in my website, hearing new music rocks my world.

I had never seen this cool ring ceremony at the ceremony. A ribbon is passed among all in the circle, then the rings are slid through the ribbon, from hand and hand with silent blessings.

There’s brew churning in there – it was an interesting pair of weddings that weekend as the day before I was shooting at a functional nursery. Different is good.

The Reals … going places

Cormik offered up the first toast

Cruiser bikes are the signature of New Belgium’s presence in Fort Collins, so it’s fitting the exit would be on two wheels. There go Cheyne & Chad – off on life’s next chapter!
